University of Utah football fans will take to the streets today with our undefeated, Sugar Bowl-winning team today in a downtown parade celebrating a national championship-caliber season.  The 13-0, No. 2 Associated Press ranked Utah football team will be honored with a parade in downtown Salt Lake City on Friday, Jan. 16. Starting at 3 p.m. The Ute Football Team will be joined by a caravan of coaches, local dignitaries, inaugural parade bound marching band, cheerleaders, dance teams and the MUSS (Mighty Utah Student Section) and Swoop (mascot)from the Eagle Gate entrance at the corner of South Temple and State Street to the City County Building at Washington Square (400 South).

Chants of "We're No. 1" are likely to displace the familiar "B-C-S" cry that echoed in Rice-Eccles Stadium after Utah won its final regular season game against arch rival BYU.

The Utes will converge on State Street New Orleans-style Friday, passing out red Mardi Gras beads and commemorative buttons to celebrate in what most fans see as the best season ever for any team from the state of Utah.

The parade will conclude with a rally on the west lawn of the City County Building. Speakers at the rally will include Salt Lake City mayor Ralph Becker, University of Utah president Michael K. Young, Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson, director of athletics Dr. Chris Hill, head coach Kyle Whittingham, a football player to be determined and Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr.

A host of other dignitaries, including several city and county council members, supporters of the Utah football program, representatives from the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU), the president of the MUSS and others will be seated alongside the stage.

If you missed the amazing Sugar Bowl game you can see it Saturday night at 7 p.m., FOX-13 will re-broadcast Utah's Sugar Bowl win over Alabama.

Here are just a few highlights from such a stellar 2008 season:

1. The only undefeated team in the nation (13-0).

2. No. 2 AP and No. 4 USA Today rankings are both the best in school history.

3. 4-0 against the Top-25 ranked (Alabama, TCU, Oregon State, Brigham Young).

4. 6-0 against bowl teams.

5.. Utah scored 21 points in a seven-minute span against Alabama.

6.  Eight straight bowl wins is the longest current bowl streak in the nation. Included are wins over USC, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech and Alabama.

7.  Utah is 12-3 in the last 15 games against automatic BCS qualifiers.
