Kauai Hawaii Real Estate - Hawaii Foreclosure Rate Soars in December 2008
A recent article in the Hawaii Star Bulletin reports that Hawaii foreclosures rose 284% year over year in December. Obviously the foreclosure prevention programs are not having the desired effect of slowing the swell of foreclosures. You can read the article here.
Compounding the issue is Hawaii's Act 137, which affects the Kauai Hawaii Real Estate market as well as all of Hawaii. While the intent of the act is to protect distressed homeowners from persons who prey on those in distressed situations, in practice it has tied realtors hands in their efforts to help homeowners who desperately need assistance and information. The original draft of this law exempted attorneys and real estate propfessionals, however the final bill signed in to law in June 2008 only exempted attorneys. Unfortunately that means as real estate agents we are limited in what we can do for those with distressed properties.
The Kauai Hawaii Real Estate continues to move slowly, but prices have seemed to settle somewhat.
