First Time home buyer $7500 tax credit
Many people are aware of the tax credit of up to $7,500 that was passed in 2008 for first time home buyers. Now there is talk that some of the provisions of this credit may be made more favorable to home buyers with legislation proposed in early 2009. One of the disadvantagee of the tax credit is that is not really a credit. It must be repaid (with no interest) over 15 years. Under the new proposal, the tax credit would be yours to keep. If this change is approved, I will be reporting it on this blog. In the meantime Indianapolis area real estate buyers are seeing some very low interest rates, a plentiful supply of homes to select from and very affordable pricing. (In fact a recent survey showed that the Indianapolis-Carmel Indiana market area came in number two in the whole US in housing affordability.)
The question now is there are opportunities in Indianapolis real estate. Will you take advantage of them or will you sit on the sidelines? Of course, as always be sure to check with your tax advisor to see if these credits would apply to your situation.
