The Forest Lakes Board recently invited representatives from the UVA Foundation, Albemarle Zoning Department, and the Albemarle County Supervisors, to present and discuss the affect planned and/or approved development wil have on the area's infrastructures--i.e. schools, roads and traffic, population, etc.
The Forest Lakes Board represents over 1400 households in the neighborhoods making up Forest Lakes North and South, located off Rte 29, just a few miles north of Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Board was charged with this fact finding mission because citizens are concernedthat our community will be adversely affected by the rapid and enormous growth planned for the coming years!
However, all 3 parties that presented to us said any negative impact to our infrastructure would be small, primarily limited because:
1. The current economic conditions have stalled, or scaled, many of the more ambitious projects 2. Many of the supporting roadways have already been built to specifications necessary to handle much greater traffic loads 3. Approved plans for arterial roads, crossover bridges, walkways, traffic lights, etc., are already integrated into the master plan 4. Elementary (Hollymead and Baker Butler) and Middle (Sutherland) schools are not near capacity and even if that day were to come, there is already a site pre-determined for another school to be built 5.
