MARTO LAFITTE NEWSFLASH: STRIKE ACTION
25 AUGUST 2010
STRIKE ACTION
The general strike is on its 8th day. The latest news is that the SA Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) will embark on a strike in Gauteng on Friday in solidarity with striking public servants. I wanted to let you know how it has impacted the Deeds’ Office and your registrations.
JOHANNESBURG
While there is no official strike action at the Johannesburg Deeds’ Office:
1. matters are taking longer to register. Matters are now taking 10 – 14 days to register as opposed to the “normal” 7 days;
2. we have been requested to attend to only strictly necessary functions and we are restricted in our functions;
3. we need to attend early and are on standby in case of a lockdown.
PRETORIA
The Deeds Office has been closed on a number of days during the strike action. On days that the Deeds Office has been open there is limited access. Today was first day we were allowed to lodge and register matters. The Deeds’ Office will be closed again tomorrow.
We will monitor situation and keep you advised of same.
