The first thing you should do is to change the door locks.  You won't have any ided who might have a key to the home.  Change all the locks at the same time and it's a good idea to have the locks keyed to a master key.

Keep all offers, closing documents and any related paperwork togetherand in a safe place.

Once you're settled in, it's a good idea to videotape everything in the home.  It will serve as a valuable tool if there's an unfortunate event and you need to get your insurance company involved.  Make a detailed written list as well and keep a copy of both in a location outside of the home, such as a safety deposit box.
