Charlottesville Virginia Real Estate-1st Time Home Buying

I was lying in bed, last night, remembering climbing trees.

And, in particular, there was this Gy-jormous pine tree just a few feet from our house, that I regularly used to ascend, oh some 40 years past.

I marvel, now, that I did this climb, and did it regularly. I guess, now that I'm a parent, and, according to my children, half-way fossilized, the thought of scaling this 75 foot living stalk of branches and pine tar, amazes, if not scares me.

I can remember laboring up, carefully planting each sneakered foot, pulling up with my arms, sure to grab and place appropriately in the crux of branch and trunk.

My goal: to get to the highest point of the tree where the view was least obscured by dense foliage, scant feet from the tip-top. There, my view was of the faraway Vermont foothills, and before them, the town and the red-brick buildings of the college that called it home, and closest at hand, the gentle rolling fields that seemed to roll wave-like as the summer breezes blew through.

The smell of pine was heavy in the air, the stick of pine sap, payout for my efforts, gooey on my palms.

And, I sat there, perched on a limb, the tree bending and swaying with the burden of my weight so close to its apex, and looked west through the branches over my dominion. I din't think of fear, or what one misplaced footing would mean. I didn't worry, I didn't fret. I was living my 13 year old life, the only way I knew how.

Now, these many years later, I remember those tree climbs. I've even considered attempting a climb, again. But you know, reason and practicallity always rear their ugly heads, and I realize the only trees I'm going to scale nowadays, will be those in my memory.

So, how does this relate to Charlottesville Virginia Real Estate and 1st-Time Home Buying? What possible meaning could there be in youthful tree climbs and now my acceptance of my age and life position--the self-limiting determinants from a once wild and crazy lifestyle accentuated by irresponsible behavior?

1st-Time Home Buying often times signals the end of our young, self-indulgent life as we enter the American Dream of homeownership, whether it be to start a family, or invest and generate cash flow, or just get away from renting--it requires a definite shift in outlook.

Sometimes we can't see this change in our outlook until we have the luxury of hind-sight. We look back, through the thick of the forest, and we see where we were before, to where we've come, today.

I know, buying my first home and being in the mind-set of the 1st-Time Home Buying, was, in many ways, similar to that tree climb decades ago.

I knew my objective was to get up high in order to obtain a view.

I knew that there were definite steps to take in order to reach my goal.

I also took pleasure in the climb, replete with the deep pine scent and sap that were gifts from my journey.

And finally, upon reaching the height from which I could look out over the world, I sat in my crow's nest and enjoyed the moment.

1st-Time Home Buying is similar in that you need to set goals, follow predefined steps, and relax and enjoy the process.

There's always a lot of hype about how stressful it is during the process of buying your first home. You hear every buyer on HGTV's 1st-Time Home Buying show say how stressed and miserable they were during the process.

Personally, I disagree. I think it should be a happy, engaging, and exciting time. I like looking at houses, I think home inspections are interesting, and I like researching communities.

Granted, I hated the financing part and gathering all the required documentation. And moving? Yes, moving was a bear, too!

But after the fact? After we reached the top of the tree? It was, and still is, fantastic.

And you know? I've been eyeing that big old pine out in my backyard...

One thing I can promise you--hire me as your Realtor and your entire 1st-time home buying experience will be fun, engaging, and very exciting!
