Frederick Maryland Real Estate: Mortgage Help Center Opens in Washington, D.C. Area
REGIONAL SPOTLIGHT—Fannie Mae recently announced the opening of the Capital Area Mortgage Help Center to provide free education and counseling services to struggling homeowners in the Washington, D.C. area. The Capital Area Center is the twe12th Mortgage Help Center to open across the country, and is part of Fannie Mae’s ongoing effort to ensure that homeowners facing foreclosure understand their options, have access to assistance and receive timely resolutions. The Center was developed in partnership with HomeFree-USA, local community and elected officials, and area mortgage servicers.
The Mortgage Help Center will offer one-on-one consultations in person or over the phone with experienced housing counselors to review mortgage loans and financing options, explain the range of options available, and help borrowers apply for loan workouts and other alternatives to foreclosure. Services are offered in both English and Spanish, and will be available to residents in the entire Washington, DC region, including Maryland and Virginia.
“There are many families in the D.C. area that are struggling to make their mortgage payments. We are committed to doing our part to help them understand their options and avoid foreclosure,” says Mike Williams, President and CEO, Fannie Mae. “Our Help Centers have assisted nearly 9,000 homeowners across the country, with 60% able to remain in their homes. The Help Centers are a valuable resource for homeowners with Fannie Mae loans to determine their options and pursue solutions.”
“HomeFree-USA is proud to partner with the Fannie Mae Mortgage Help Center,” states Marcia Griffin, President and Founder, HomeFree-USA. “This important initiative will help many struggling homeowners throughout the National Capital Area to resolve their mortgage difficulty and remain in their homes.”
In addition to providing counseling and access to mortgage education and financial literacy resources, the Mortgage Help Center staff will help homeowners coordinate with their mortgage servicers and ensure an efficient response time. The Center will also help to combat mortgage fraud and abuse in the Washington, DC area.
