Naples Florida Real Estate Information Series

It was Benjamin Franklin who once said "Creditors have better memories then debtors" and in most cases it is true.

When it comes to negative items on your credit report the length of time they stay on depends on the type. Late payments and delinquencies stay on a credit report for seven years. Bankruptcy and foreclosures stay on for ten years. Other types like recorded liens stay on indefinitely.

Don't assume that negative information magically disappears after the time has passed. Sometimes the reporting agencies need to be remined. Make sure to check your credit report atleast every year to make sure items are being properly reported and negative items come off when they are supposed to.
