Apple Valley CA Real Estate Going Green smaller homes may be the futureRecent research is indicating homes being constructed now are smaller than they were in 2008. In the later part of last year the median home was approximately 2,090 square feet, a substantial drop from the 2,629 square feet in the second quarter of 2008. With the substantial drop in home prices and the economy slowing, homeowners may be looking at homes with less unused space, more energy efficiency and a home that better fits their overall needs. There is more of an interest in economizing space and making one room of the home a more flexible space that can be used for a variety of activities. Patio kitchens and outside entertaining areas become more desirable as homes decrease in overall size.

Builders seem to be paying head to what buyers are looking for.  The NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) say’s that the majority of new homebuilders are planning to build more, smaller homes in the future.
